Token-based design systems: one source of colors, type and components for Figma and code
- Figma
- React
- Vue
Our usual stack. We bring in other tools when the task or the project calls for it.
As a product grows, buttons drift in shade and spacing drifts in pixels. A token-based design system defines colors, typography, spacing and components in one place for designers and developers alike.
We build the system in Figma on variables, connect it to code and document it, so the team uses it instead of working around it.
What we do
- An interface audit and inventory of repeated patterns
- Tokens: colors, typography, spacing, radii, themes
- A Figma component library built on variables
- Token export to code
- Documentation and a styleguide for the team
When the lack of a system starts to hurt
Forty shades of gray and eight kinds of buttons in the mockups
We run an inventory: collect every color, font and component from live screens, merge duplicates and keep a minimal set with clear names.
Design changed a color, but the code still has the old one
Values live in Figma variables and export to JSON, then to CSS custom properties or a Tailwind config. One change reaches the product without copying by hand.
A dark theme means redrawing the whole interface
We split tokens into primitives and semantic tokens: card background, not gray-100. A theme only swaps the mapping layer; components stay the same.
New designers spend a month figuring out which components to use
Documentation sits next to the components: when to use each, which variants exist, what to avoid. Plus a styleguide page for developers with live examples.
We built a system once, and six months later nobody used it
We define the process: who makes changes, how to propose a new component, how to deprecate old ones. The system is built from real product screens, not in isolation.
Who needs a design system
A good fit if
- Several designers or several dev teams work on the product
- You run a product line or white-label setup and need to swap brands without redesign
- You need light and dark themes or a high-contrast mode
- Your frontend is component-based — React, Vue — and you want it in sync with Figma
Not a fit if
- A dozen screens and one designer — we'll put together a tidy Figma style library instead
- The interface hasn't been tested with users yet — start with UX/UI design, systematize later
Your team moves faster
A single source of truth
A color or spacing value changes in one place and reaches both designs and code without manual checks.New screens from proven parts
Designers assemble pages from tested components, and developers stop rebuilding the same button.Themes and brands without rework
Dark mode, a sub-brand or a white-label version is a new token set, not a redesign of the interface.A system that stays alive
We agree on how new components get added, so a year later the system isn't just an archive.
How we work
- 01
Interface inventory
1 weekWe collect every button, color, spacing value and font from the design files and production and flag where they drift apart.
You get A map of existing components with a list of duplicates and mismatches - 02
Tokens
1–2 weeksWe define primitive and semantic tokens: palette, type scale, spacing, radii, shadows and themes.
You get Tokens in Figma Variables and a JSON file with the same structure - 03
Components
2–3 weeksWe build token-driven components with variants and states and test them on real product screens.
You get A Figma component library with variants, states and auto layout - 04
Code pipeline
1–2 weeksWe export tokens to CSS variables or your framework theme, so a change in Figma reaches the code without anyone retyping values.
You get A token build with Style Dictionary or similar and a ready theme in your repo - 05
Documentation
1–2 weeksWe document usage rules and how new components get added, then walk designers and developers through the system.
You get System documentation and a recorded walkthrough for the team
What we'll need from you
- Access to your Figma files, including old and draft ones
- Links to the product or staging so we can walk through the main screens
- Your frontend stack and how styles live today: CSS, Sass, Tailwind, CSS-in-JS
- The themes, brands or platforms the system has to cover
- A developer on your side to take the token export into code
A review of your current files
On a 30-minute call you walk us through Figma and the code. Afterwards we send what goes into the system, the rollout order, a timeline and an estimate.

looks a bit different?
We’ll audit your interface, define tokens for color, type and spacing, build a Figma library on variables and connect it to code.
Not always a full one. But a token set and basic components pay off by the second screen you don’t have to build from scratch.
From $8,000. The cost comes down to how many components and states the library covers, how many themes or brands share the tokens, and whether we also wire the tokens into your codebase with documentation. We quote after reviewing your current designs on a call.
Yes, tokens are exactly what lets you switch themes without reworking components.
We export them from Figma into whatever your stack understands: CSS variables, SASS, JSON or a Tailwind config.
Your team — using the documentation we leave behind. We can also maintain it for you.
